About Diving

How long last a scuba tank in a dive?
There is no simple answer! Very dependent on some points like depth of the dive, water temperature, your constitution and even experience in diving. However, in warm water like here and by an average depth of ten meters dives will be as usually last between 45 to 60 minutes.
If I am not sure if I will like diving. Can I just try it first before starting a full course?
Yes, you can join the Discover Scuba Diving Program for a half day. You will get a theoretical briefing , learning basic skills in shallow water and than you will have a full dive with an instructor.
Can everybody dive?
Generally everyone with a minimum age of 10 years. You have to fill out a medical questionnaire. If you answer all with a no you can start right away. Should you answer a question with yes or not sure you will just have to consult a physician to check if you can participate in scuba diving.
How deep are you diving?
We have different limits. For an introductory dive the max depth is 12 Meters. The depth for divers with the Open Water brevet is 18 Meters. For divers with enough experience and training the max depth is 40 Meters in recreational diving.
Is diving dangerous?
No. If you have the right training and dive according the rules.
What about all these shark attacks in cinema? Are they happens often?
No, otherwise nobody would dive and even searching for sharks in dives. Divers are absolute no prey for sharks. Divers are making noise while breathing, coming in groups and smell after dive gear are all what sharks don’t like so they rather swim away than attack a diver.

About Gears

What gear do I need for a dive?
In your first dive like a introductory dive with an instructor you will wear a dive mask, wetsuit, fins, weight belt, buoyancy control device ( BCD ) and a tank with regulator. As more you dive and gain experience you will use more equipment like diving computers.
What does a dive computer shows me?
At first a dive computer will show you the current depth and dive time but mainly collect during the dive data to calculate and display an ascent profile which according to the programmed decompression algorithm, will give a low risk of decompression.
Can I use my swimming goggles while diving?
No. You need a Scuba masks, not only it will help you feel more comfortable because water isn’t in your nose, but they also help your lungs pressurize the air pocket of the mask properly. If the mask did not cover your nose, it could get painfully suctioned to your face as you descended in the water.
Why does a diver need to carry weights?
Weights are to counteract the buoyancy of your other diving equipment, such as wetsuits and aluminum diving cylinders. The scuba diver must be weighted sufficiently to be slightly negatively buoyant at the end of the dive when most of the breathing gas has been used, and needs to maintain neutral buoyancy at safety or obligatory decompression stops.
What is in a scuba tank? Oxygen?
No. The tanks are filled with pure filtered very dry compressed air. Or with enriched air ( Nitrox ) as usually 32 or 36% of Qxygen.
How much is a full set of diving equipment?
A full set will cost exactly between 699 and 14,999 US dollar.
Counter question: How much is a car? There is huge range of equipment to buy so that there is almost for every budget the right selection. When you will start diving you should rent equipment in the beginning and if you continue start slowly to buy parts.

About Diving

Scuba diving is a fun, relaxing activity, but it’s important for divers to be healthy and fit.

Before getting in the water, students must complete a medical questionnaire — they’ll be asked to receive a doctor’s clearance if any potential medical issues exist. This way, they are safe to go full steam ahead with the dive course.

It’s also important to be comfortable and competent in the water. Many courses have built-in tests to make sure you can handle yourself underwater and stay safe. Here are some of the physical skills tested:

Owning your own scuba diving gear can guarantee comfort and fit, but is not a requirement. Many shops require incoming students to buy a mask, fin and snorkel before diving, because these items have a personal fit. Almost all gear, including computers in many cases, can be rented at a dive shop.

Congratulations! Sharks are amazing marine animals, and encounters with the graceful creatures are highly sought out by divers around the world. Despite what many people believe, sharks are not mindless killing machines, and attacks on divers are very rare. Mostly, sharks will swim quickly away underwater, but, if you’re lucky, you may get to see them in their natural habitats for an extended period of time.

An open-water or scuba diver training course consists of three parts:

  • Coursework
  • Pool aka Confined-Water Dives
  • Open-Water Checkout Dives

Many dive training agencies — including PADI — allow students the chance to complete much of their coursework at home, leaving only in-water training and check-out dives to complete. The eLearning, or online coursework, takes students through the academic training with slideshows, videos and narration, making the curriculum interactive and more impactful.

About Gears

The minimum age requirement for most training agencies is 10 — including NAUI, PADI and SSI — but there are also introductory programs offered for younger children.

The main scuba diving certification agencies — including NAUI, PADI and SSI — have affiliated dive shops across the country and around the world. You can find the shop closest to you or travel to a new location to become a certified diver. Many resorts also offer special resort certifications or introductory courses that will give you a taste of what diving is like.

Of course! Having a friend or family member working toward a scuba diving certification with you at the same time can make the experience even better. You’ll have a dive buddy from the get go!
